LEVIN W.C.T.U. MEETS

A meeting of the Levin Women's Christian Temperance Union was held recently, Mrs. Kenherley occupying the chair. The meeting opened with devotions, which were led by Captain Williamson, who later gave an inspiring talk on the ! revelation of the spirit of God in the Christian lfe. A welcome was extended to Mrs. Andricksen after her absence through illness. Roll call was answered with a verse of i Scripture containing the word love. The scientific fact, read by Mrs. j AUstin, showed that the taking of , alcohol might cause and aggravate ' certain diseases. A report from the recent district executive meet- ; ing, which was held in Palmerston! North, was given by Mrs. Kenner- 1 ley. Maori Day will be observed at the . September meeting, when the guest speaker will be Sister Madeline Holland, Methodist deaconess at Ratana. Members are, requested to bring to the meeting any good used clothing which would be useful in the sister's work among the Maori people. The poster and essay competition was discussed and the members expressed the hope that local secondary school pupils would enter for both competitions, for which good prizes will be awarded. The hostesses, Mesdames Tomlinson, Plaster, Rose and Henskie, served afternoon tea. A vote of thanks was accorded these ladies.
