CHURCHES CONFER ON FAITH AND ORDER
WELLINGTON, August 27. Delegates to the Faith aud Order eonference of the National Council ot Churches completely filled St. Mary's, Karori, when they assembled for a service to o]5en proceedings yesterday. The eonference is being attended by nearly 200 delegates, inciuding the represeutatives of the eight cpnstituent churches of the National Council. The service was conducted by Principal F. W. Hames, of Trinity Methodist Theological College, Auckland, and the preacher was Priheipal J. A. Allan, of Knox Presbytefiai) Theological College, Dunedin, who took his text from Psalm 133, "Behoid, how good ani joyful a thing it is, brethren, 'to dwell together in unity. " On behalf of the Mayor of Wellington at the reeeption held in Marsden School after the service, Councillor L. T. Jacobsen said he welcomed such an important gathering to Wellington. The Bishop of Wellington (the JRt. Hev. E. H. Owen) welcomed delegates both as Bishop aud as chairinan of the board of governors of Marsden School. lle was proud such a eonference was being held in Wellington and said there would be many in the diocese who would follow the proceediugs closely. On behalf of the local branch of the National council of Churches, tlie Rev. J. M. Bates extended his organisation's welcome. The Very Rev. Dean A. K. Warren, Dean of Christchurch, and cliairman ot the eonference, replied for the delegates. The eonference is to nieet morning, afternoon and evening until Se£)tembei 2, and study where the various Churches vvithin the National Council agree or diRer on the fundamentals of faith and order. A public function will be held in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, on August 28.
