WELLIJNU-TOJN, nug. The transport Dunera berthed at Aotea Quay shortly after 9 a.m. to eommence the disembarkation of 1481 otncers and men and nursing sisters of J-Force. Those on ooard have served their- 12 months in Japan. t The official party, including the. Ministers of Defence and Rehabilitation, boarded the Dunera from the tug Terawhiti at about 7.45 a.m. and were' welcomed by the men iiriing the rails of the ship. T|;e two Ministers gave addresses of welcome. - The soldiers cheered everybody and anything as the Dunera berthed between the' carrier Theseus and destroyer Cockade. The trip from Japan was reported to be a pleasant one, with good food and livi'ng conditions and plenty of entertainment. The highlight of the voyage was a visit to ouva, wliere the . troops got five hours' leave. The ohly complaint from the men was the lack of leave in Japan. Some said they had had no leave during their entire 12 months in japan. On the medical side the doctors were more than pleased . with the health of the troops. Previous complamts about the llving conditions were not borne' out by the men in today's draft. They said conditions had greatly . improved in the last 12 months. Arrangements were made to transport the North Island men by train or bus today. The South Island men will travel by boat to Nelson, Picton and Lyttelton this afternoon and tonight.
