TYRE SALES IN LEVIN
DEMAND HEAVY BUT NOT EXCESSIVE Since the lifting of the restriction on tyres the demand on local dealers hasr been heavy but not excessive. Requests for popular sizes are being met without much difficulty, but odd sizes are still difficult to secure. "In reality we will sell no more tyres now than when the restrictions were on," said the manager of a. large Wellington importing" company. "We have, all along, - been selling all that we could get, and we shall still go on doing this. Since the dnnouncement there has naturally been a heavy demad, but this has come f-rom dealers anxious to replenish their stocks. With the shpply as it is today, most of them Will be able t.o do this, but will not be able to build up any reserves." A report from Wanganui states that tyre distributors there held an emergency conference on Mohday afternoon, when it was realised that panic btiying was completely dehuding their shelves. An appeal Was later issiied to motorists to restrict purchases to absolute requirements.
