BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

OHAU WOMEN'S" DIVISION lylore than 10Q women met recentiy in tk i Ohau Hall to celebrate the thirteenth birthday of the Ohau bfanch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Visitors attended from as far north as Moutoa Paraparaumu in the south. Numerous apologies were received from members and invited guests. 0 The hall, which had been deGOirated by members, looked like spring personified and an appropriate setting for the celebratiqn. Visiting ' branches had brpught floral expressions of good wishes and greeting, while the prizes for some competitions were also floral, thus helping to intensify the atmosphere of spring. Proceedings were opened with the division creed and song. A programme provided by Mesdames Barber (Moutoa) , Perigo (Levin) and Greenwood (Ohau)

Was much appreciated. In order to raise funds for division activities, Mesdames Benning, Candy, Dittmer and Greenwood were in charge of a stall which did excellent business, about £10 being made. Mesdames Burt and Guerin supervised an exhibition of needlework. Many and varied were the beautiful pieces of work displayed, and they added much' to the attractiveness of the hall. They also arranged .the display for the "Best Flower in My Garden" competition, which was won by Mrs. Lloyd Whiley. The birthday cake had been beautifully iced by a member of the Ohau branch of Federated Farmers and the ceremony of cutting it preceded afternoon tea. Mrs. Jenkins," provincial president, lit the candles and they were extinguished by Mrs. S. Clyde Saint, provincial secretary. Mrs. H .J. McLeavey, Dominion ' treasurer, had the honour of cutting the cake. In thanking those who had provided the entertainment, the branch president, Mrs. J. A. Kilsby, presented each with a spray of fiowers. Competitions were the order of the day. Mrs. Burt (Moutoa) won the lucky piece of birthday cake. Mrs. Honore (Ohau) was on the lucky spot at the right time. Other competitions were won. by Mesdames Fenn (Levin) , Bennett (Manakau) , Hay (Paraparaumu) and Aanensen (Ohau) . Considerable amusement was caused when all the grandmothers were called to the front of the hall. One grandmother with 20 grandchildren received a -bouquet of yiolets, while one with 14 grandchildren and one great-grand-child also received a bouquet. Members had provided an excellent afternoon tea, which was served by Mesdames Coles, Hunter, Kilsby, H. J. McLeavey, T. L. Horn, H. Murray, Kircaldie and H. Saint. The singing of the National Anthem terminated the meeting.
