LOCAL AND GENERAL
Personal Miss P. Crighton, who has been spending a holiday with her ' sistei\ and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald, of Mangaore, left yesterday morning on the first stages of her return journey to her home in Invercargill. On account 'of the illness of her mother, Mrs. J. W. Martin, Clapham Street, Miss Edna Martin has given up her position in Palmerston North and returned home to look after her parents. Following a lengthy illness, the Rev. Mr. Martin is npw considerably improved in health, • and is able to take the services at the Presftyterian Church regularly. On the first Sunday in September the quarterly Communion servce will be held, ■ Cycles on Footpaths blk With loose metal on streets within the borough, children not infrequently prefer to ride their bicycles on the footpaths, making it necessary for pedest'rians to move out of their way. It is hoped that "footpath safety" will be incorporated in the present road safety campaign, and that adults as well £is children will give up the practice of riding their bicycles without lights at night time, both on the roads and on the footpaths.
