WELLINGTON, August 19. Objection to that part of the 31aster ton Licenisng Restoration Bill limiting hotel licenees to oue per complete 1000 of electors, was the main point of the discussion today before the Parlianientarv Select Committee consisting of live Labour members and four Nationalist menibers presided over by Mr. D. \V. Colenian (Gisborne). The first fear expressed by. witnesses was that . with only 500 electors, suffi cient under the existing legislation to permit a licence, the isolated Akitio district with Pongaroa as it.? centre, miglit be allotted none of the. two licenees to which the Bill limited the 2(i00 electors involved in the area outside the trust district. The Eketahuna representatives . said they did liot want to deprive. Akitio county of a licence but with 1500 electors in the Eketahuna borough and county, they regarded one licence as 111 adequate and suggested-two in Eketahuna and oue in Pongaroa. The Qommittee adjourned till Tuesday next.
