It will be notieed tliat there has been an increase in the transfers to tliis ward from tlie JDistrict Maternity Home over the past f'ew months and a f'urther considerable increase in transfers is anticipated. " During the nionth a successful appeaJ for voluntafv blood donors for the Manawatu Branch of tlie Xatioual Blood Transfusion Service had been orgaiiuised througli the St. John Ambulance Brigade, ho continued. The appeal had resulted in over 500 donors enrolling and would place tlie service Ln a very satisfactory position- in the future. He congratulated the brigade on tjie success of its efforts. Tlie hospital statistics for .Tulv as quoted by Mr. Xorth were as follow: — Admitted 435, discharged 410, died 18, reiuaining 310, daily average of occupied beds 3— 0.S 1. Infectious diseases: Scarlet * fever, admitted 3, remaining end of month 3, diplitheria 2, 2, hvdatid cyst 2, 3. Maternity liomes: Admitted, Palmerston Xorth 49, Foxton 5, Otaki 25, Feilding 15. Births, Palmerston Xorth 47, Foxton 5, Otaki 23, Feilding 12. .Remaining at end of month, Palmerston Xorth, mothers 12, babes 14, Foxton 8, 3, Otaki 10, 8, Feilding 5, 5. Daily average of occupied beds, Palmerston Xorth 20.3, Foxton 2.45, Otaki 10.38, Feilding 5.8. Included in the Palmerston Xorth Maternity Home figures are the eancs transferred from thc maternity home to tlie McTIardy ward and ward 11 after eonlinement. Twenty-four such transfers occurred during the nionth with an average occupied bed figure of 5.26 maternity patients in the main hospital.
