ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

COUNCIL ASKED FOR SUPPORT He hoped the council would give its blessing and support to the i Junior Chambers of Commerce road safety campaign, said the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. "We have got to do what we can to make this town safe for all road users. I have said before that the penalties for traffic offences are not heavy enough.' The only way to deal with certain types of drivers is to.take their licences away from them." Many drivers had a complete lack of consideration, and travelled at speeds far too great for the time and place. Pedestrians too, Mr. Burdekin added, had to be alive to the fact that a car might not stop at a pedestrian crossing, and should exercise care and thus prevent an aceident.
