"STANLEY THE SAFETY PUP"
BOOKLETS DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOL PUPILS Yesterday the school children of Levin, = in common with others in many parts of the Dominion, received an unusuaL treat— a picture book entitled '"Stanley the Saf ety 'Pup." No less than 100,000 of these 32-page b&oklets have been printed and distributed by Junior Chambers of Commerce throughout the Country in the course of: cheir "Road * 'Saf ety Fortnight" which began yesterday and will continue until Saturday of next week: * ' . : The booklet for school children contains- the basic message which the Junior Chamber of Commerce wishes to convey to all sections of the coipmunity during its campaign — care on the roads for the safety -of all .users. The moral of. "Stanley" is clear. Children must learn at an early age the first essentials of road care. They must learn not to cross roads at random, they must become familiar with road signs and traffic signals devised for their own safety, and they must not be tempted to ignore these precautions on any occasion.* "Stanley" is the endearing little pup, who, having the confidence of children, endeavours to protect them from the impish tempter who is always trying to lead children into foolhardiness on highways. Apart from the moral. it contains and the message of practical road sense it imparts, "Stanley the Safety Pup" has already proved highly popular among parents and Children alike for its attractive layout and its humorous drawings.
