DEMAND FROM OVERSEAS IN AGRICULTURE
Mauy applk-atious from Englaml, Kenya, Iiulia and Australia for admission as students to Massey Agricultural College, Palmer.ston North, are causing concern to the College authorities/wlio caunot provide liostel aceommodation for the number applying. It is eonsidered that the risk of boarding aceommodation not being available in Palmerston North for these nien from overseas makes diffieult the aeceptanee of their applications for courses, wliicli in. the main are for sheep and dairy farming, and dairy science. Seven agrieultural students from India liave been studying in New Zealaiul over the last two years. On return to their own countrv, from which they eame to the Dominion on Imrsaries gra'nted by tlia Iiulian Government, they will take up instructional work in Government departmeuts. Official re(piests that a large number oi otlier students from India should be accommodated in courses at Palmerston North have" been received, but manv have had to be deeliued because of the liostel aceommodation problem. Otlier applications inelude two oi tliree enrolments from Kenya, some from Victoria (Australia), for courses iu dairy science, and severn! from Kng- • land for farming courses.
