TAUA1ARUNUI, August 15. An inquest into the burnt remains of Mr. John Alexander McKain, from the lire in the Grand Hot.ei, Ohura, on August was held today at Taumarunui before Mr. W. Meads," Coroner, when the evidenee showed that thc apjiarent cause of the lire was a lighted cigarette igniting the becl cloth.es in room 10 directJy opposite room 9 in vvliich deceased slept. Deceased and a nuiuber of other boarders returned late from a ball and he was asLeep in be.d when the lire oc.curred. Ilg did not hear the alarins, was overcome by smoke and burnt to degtli. The Coroner gave a verdict accordingly.
