ANOTHER BIG PRIVATE PROJECT
AL'GKLAND, August 14. Details of :i £.'>,oiH),()U() programme wh.icli is now being c-arned out by New Zealand Lore-t I'roducts, Ltd., ano which will result in the production oi 42,000,1)0(1 feet of timber from a hugi mill at Maraetai, and also the production of millioiis of rnulti-wall papei bags and containers a year, were out lined by Ihe chairman of directors, Mr. D. llenry. Ile said the lirst stages oi ihe project were now under way. The prograinme envisaged an increase in the !«ut])ut of tim'yer and the use of waste from the mills to inanufacture paper pulp and kraft paper. The company was now luulding 22 houses in additiou to sitigle men's ((uarlers and a new mil! at Atiamuri. It was expeeted that the mill, which would produce 0,000, 00b feet of timber annually, would be working this year. The opening stages of the eou.struction of houslng and mUi works for a new Swedish gangsaw mil! at Maraetai, live miles froih Tokoroa, wliere also under way. About 14,000,000 feet of timber a year would be eut from Ihe mill and it was expeeted that the goal wouid be reaehed in about three years. Mr. Ilenry said the pulp and paper mills would be alongside the timbei mill at Alaraetai and would feed factories for bags and containers whicn would be at Penrose. The first section of the pulp mill which was exjoected to l>e working in three years, wou-ld pro duce 10,000 tons of pulp a year aml that would be increased to 20,000 tou.-« when the paper mill was erected. Plani for making multi-wall bags whicli would be used for packing cement, fertiliser, lime, sugar and similar com modities, was due iif Auckland from Amcriea at about the end of Septem l>er. Another part of the liuge development programme was the extension of Ihe company 's present ^wallboard mili at Penrose to obtain an extra 20,000,00.0 feet of board a year.
