(J. F. Fkiuner, when the report from Rotorua .was referred t(. him this evening. ile added that the establislnnent oi' a pulp and paper mak ing industry in New Zealand had been talkeil about for years and there was uotliiug new about the project. No other coniment was available fromthe Minister but it was ascertained from other sources that altliough sev eral sites for pulp and paper manufae turing works had been in vestigatcd, no decision as to the site had been made. it was stated in one quarter that even if the Govenunent decided to go ahead imniediately it wouid be many years before a piant of this kind could be in pi'oduction. In these circumstances the suggestioii that £7,(J(JU,0()y is to be appropriated this year to provide finance to establish the industrv^can complete ly be disreganled. It is kuown, liowever, the represenlatives of Walms leys, a British company which has in stalled its paper-making niachinery in some ot' the biggest paper mills in the world, liave alrea'ly had discussions with the Governnient.
