PARAPARAUMU NOTES

There""was a large attendance of members and visitors to celebrate the" birthday of -the Paraparaumu branch of the W.D.F.F., held in the Amglican • Hall. Mrs. Harris, presider.t, Welcomed all present and hoped they would all have a pleasant aftef-hoon. A ; flower show helped with' the other decorations fco make the hall a pleasant reminder that spring was in the air. The competi'iion winners were: Deeor-, ated ' basket, Mrs. H. Smith; best decorated vase (8 inches) , Mrs. Glenn-Campbell ; best • pot plant, Mrs. Potts, Serr.; best fiowering shrub, Mrs. Sherridan; junior division (best sand posy) , Veronica Mahon. There were many visitors from all branches of the W.D.F.F., who came to bring their good wishes. Mrs. McLeavey, Dominion treasurer, sent her apologies. Mrs. Hadfield, president of the Women's Institute, exterded to the branch good wishes for its birthday and success in the future year's work. The cake, which was made by Mrs. Reeve and iced by Mrs. Webber, was delicious. It was cut by Mrs. Jenkins, of Levin, and Ihe candles were extinguished by Mrs. Potts, Senr. The entertainment part of the programme was provided by Miss Kora Lang (sorgs), accompanied by Miss Hansen; Mrs. Lee (songs) ; Mesdames Glenn-Camp-bell, Sheriden, Mahon and M. Matthews (an amusing play) ; ^irl guides'(folk dancing) . A delicious afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Sponsored by the Raumati South Progressive Association in order to raise funds for a community hall to be erected at Rawatiri, severai enterprisfng residents have urdertaken in turn to provide a card evening once a week in their own homes. Keen interest is taken ir these parties by all and the. fund is steadily growing, as well aS the attendance. The first party was held at the home of Mrs. E. Wilshire, Cluny - Road, and a very happy time was spent by all pres- ' " :
