JBNIOR CHAMRERS' CAMPAIGN Coneerned at the rapid increase iri the number of road accidenibs involving injury or death, . the Junior Chaimbers ;of Commerce of New Zealar.d at their last annual conv.ention decided to cohduct in 1947 a- campaign for •greafer safety on roads, The campaign, which will_ coinmence on Monday next, will be urdertaken by 20 Junior .Chambers throughout the Dominion, utilising the fjill manpower membership of the organisation— nearly 3000 young men. ~ The campaign will ,end on Saturday, August 30. Perhaps the rnost r.ovel feature of the •.campaign will be the distribution to school v children between the ages of 5 and 12 ^.ears •of a humorpusly written and .depieted .booklet, the hero of which is '"Stanley the Safety Pup.W A :sp.ecial frjend of children, "Stanley" has the remarkable capacity ©f changirig the colour of his eyes from red 'when danger lurks to igreen when all is clear. Through (the adventures of Stanley in conflict with the danger imp, who ishis special enemy, "Stanley the Safety Pu'p" corveys in an unsuspecting manner the essentiails of road eare — cross only when the road "as clear, use only authorised crossings in-streets where they are provided, and always obey the •"■raffic" signals. No less than. 1;0'0,000 of these booktets will be discributed to school children throughout the Dominion.
Theoexpenses of the road .safety j caxppaign, running into several. hundreds of po.unds, have been; imet by subscriptions from irdiv-j idua'ls, organisations and business; firms who have responded to the '.Junior Chambers' appeal for: assistance in this campaign to make the roads sa-fer for all users.
