Tragedy At Lonely Home In Taranaki

WEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 13. A woman was shot -dead by a bidlet from a rifle in fbe kitcben of her home on. T-awhiti Road, Tututawa, 24 mjles from StratEord, this morning, A young man was arr-ested -this afternoon in the Mangamingi district about _ four miles from the scene of the'tragedy. -He will app.ear in the Police Court at*"iNew Plvmouth tomorrow and" will -be e'harged with murder. The victirn was Mrs. Ceorgina Harwood, aged 44, wife of Mr. Sam-uel Kdward Harwood, farmer. At the time of the o.ccurrenee Mr. Harwood, who h.as a contract for conveying "children to the Tututawa sc'hool, was away from the house doing this work. A, daughter, Miss ¥aleri.e Harwood, aged 17, was in the roorn and witnessed the shooting. She ran from the house to the road to wait for her father who was refcurning from the school. She was suffering from severe shock and was n.5t in a fit condition to give any definite.information about the events. } The house is the last one on the Tawhiti Road and is described as being rather isolated. Mr. Harwood settled on the, f'arm after his return from the. first world war. There is a family: of four — one sun, aged about 24, who has been living at the i'arm . and left yesterday to work near Stratford, and three daughters.
