RECORD PRICE FOR OXEN
PEN OF SEVEN MAKES £25 There were large yardings of fat sheep and cattle at the Levin stock sale yesterday, and values appreciated on last week's rates. A record for the district was the sale of a pen of seven heavy oxen, on account of Messrs. Rowland Bros^ Tokomaru, which made to £24 17s 6d. Prime heavy ewes made to 40s ld. The top price for wethers was 47s 4d. A large yarding of hoggets eame forward, but the quality was below that required by butchers ard the majority were absorbed by the local graziers. No store sheep were penned. A large yarding of pigs came forward and were keenly sought. An outstanding truck of vealers averaged about £7 s 10s, the top price being £9 7s . 6d. Fat P.A. heifers made £13 17s 6d, while fat cows made £12 12s 6d. Cattle: Pen of extra prime oxen, hree at £24 17s 6d, three at £22 17s 6d. one at £22 7s 6d; prime P.A. heifers, to £13 17s 6d; medium do., £12 12s 6d to £12 17s 6d; light do., down to £10 7s 6d; prime P.A. cows, to £12 17s 6d; medium do., down to £11 12s 6d; extra prime P.A. vealers, £8 7s 6d to £9 7s 6d; medium do., £6 17s 6d to £8 2s 6d; light do., down to £4 17s 6d; runners, £9 2s 6d to £10 7s 6d; fiat ex-dairy cows, £7 7s 6d to £9 7s 6d; young cows at drop, £15 10s to £18; springing heifers, £12 to £15 5s; later calving :orts, down to £8 10s; heifers r.w.b., £8 10s; small P.A. yearling heifers, to £3 17s 6d; medium P.A. yearling '.teers, £5 3s; empty two-year-old Jersey heifers, £5 7s 6d to £6 5s.
