V , While travelling north towards Levin recently a patrol officer of the Automobile Association (Wellington) was approaching the Ohau Bridge when he saw a 'car coming towards him which appear - ed to have a sack hanging round its front axle. On closer inspection he wa§ amazed to rote that the "sack" was actually the inner tube of the front tyre. Stopping the fhotorist, a woman, he jokingly commented that she appeared *to have a fiat tyre. No one was more surprised than the driver, who admitted travelling on the tyre for six miles. "By the cordition of the tyre it certainly; looked as if she -had, for it .was practically red hiot and torn to ribbons/' stated the officer. • - \ -i z.* With the characteristic courtesy of ih'e association to which he belongs, the officer volunteered to change the tyre for her. Fortunately, she had a spare, for the size required for her vehicle is practically unobtainable.
