REPRESENTATIVE BASKETBALL

* HOROWHENUA PLAY HUTT On saturday three Horowhenua teams, Ihe seni'or A, senior B and; a B grade team, travelled to Wel-i lington to play representative basketball matches against Hutti Valley. Heavy tain fell during the; afternoon . and all games were' played at the Drill Hall, Petone. The courts were much .smaller ifi area than the usual oper-air ones, and the Horowhenua players found difflculty "in a'djusting themselves to 'the crowded space. The B grade gable was won by Hutt Valley by 14 goals to 5. In this game the Hutt players Were superior to Horowhenua in all secw' tions, the Horowhenua plqyers lacking the experience which can only be gained in representative matches. Gf the Horowhenua players, the -centres settled down to the game fir'st. S. Parr deserves mention for her good handling and field work. H. Davis played a very good .game. The ser ior B game was also won by Hutt by 18 goals to 10. Here again Hutt Valley had the advaniage of knowing the court well, as the hall in which the games were played was the usual training ground for the team. Horowhenua fought hard to even the score during the second half, but found the cramped space too difficult to work in . J. - Arcus played well at centre and ' C. Lynch in the forwards showed some excellent team work. The senibr A game was played for the Poynton Cup, won last year ' by Horowhenua. This game was fast and, -considering the difficulties, well played by both teams. At half-time Hutt Valley led by 9 goals to 5. In the secord half Horowhenua played well in an endeavour to rnake up the lead gained by their opponents, but the final score resulted in a win for Hutt Valley by 16 goals to 12. C, Court 6, Miss Rowe. 2.15 p.m. : Textile A v. St. Joseph's, Court 1, Miss ChapmanCohen; C.O.G. A v. College, Oourt 2, Mrs. Lindon; College. A v. College C, to be played at school; College F v. Ajax, Court 4, Mrs. Dome; Primary A v. College H, Court 3, Miss Hills; Primary B v. C.O.G. D, Court 5, Miss J. Winiata; College G v. College Juniors, to be played at school; Aces, a bye. .
