WELLINGTON, August 6. New Zcalanu gained seeond place iii the secondary scliool eadet miniature rifle eompetitiori in 1946 for the King George V. Trophy, which is conducted annually throughout the Empire by the National Rifle Association. A total of 41,530 cadets shot for the tropli'y in 1946 in all parts of the Empire and New Zealaiul participated with a total of .12,207 iirers. South Africa won the trophy with an average score of 81.795 out of a possible 100. New Zealaud scored 80.681. Great Britain was tliird with 72.187 .and Anstralia fourth with 67.264. Of Imperial trophies New Zealand has won three — the Senior imperial Shield, the Earl Iiaig Sword and the Lord Milner Trophy. Great Britain won the two remaiuing imperial trophies, the -Earl Jellicoe Sword and Junior Imperial Sliield. The most succcssful New Zealand iinit was from the Southland Boys' lligh School .which won thb .Senior Imperial Shield and Lord Milii.er Trophy. This unit also woii tlie trophy prescnted by the late Earl Jellicoe whhn Governor-General of Xew Zealand. This trophy is awardcd locally in each country for all round efliciency. The Koxburgh lligh School won the Earl ilaig Sword. Other New Zealand units were placed as f'ollow: — Clirist's College Cadets third in the Senior Imperial Sliield, Tokomairiro lligh School seeond in the Junior Imperial Shicld, Howick Distriet High School third in the Junior Imperial Shield, St. Bedc's College Cadets A.T.C. third, in the Earl Jellicoe Sword.
