YOUNG COUPLE HONOURED

— , PRESENTATION BY BADMINTON CLUB Duririg the supper interval at the Shannon Badminton Club's. . club night at the Druids' Hall on Monday evening the opportunity was taken by the president, Mh Lester Burling, to make a presentation to two of the members who are shortly to be married. In congratulating Miss Ngaire Thomson and Mr. Tom Roach, Mr. Burling said that it was indeed a pleasure to have the opportunity of expressing good wishes to them 011 behalf of the club members. Mr. Burling then presented the young couple with a crystal cream jug and sugar bowl as a small gift from their fellow members. Mr. Burling then called upon Mr. , R. S. Downes, president of the cricket club, to say a few words on behalf of his club. Mr. Downes expressed thanks to the Badminton Club for the opportunity of allowing the cricketers to attend the function, and went on to state that ' Mr. Roach was a very keen member of the cricket club, and had been responsible for keeping it going over the past few years. He had shown a keen interest in the younger players and his coaching had been a great asset to the young members. Mr. Downes expressed the hope that Mr._ Roach would conti'nue with his cricket as well as his badminton in the future. He extended • congratulations to them both and wished them every happiness and success for the years to come. Mr. Downes then made a presentation on behalf of the present and past members of the cricket club. In his brief but fitting reply on behalf of Miss Thomson . and himself, Mr. Roach extended thanks to both Mr. Burling and Mr. Downes for their kind expressions and to the members of both clubs for their delightful gifts. The ladies of the badminton club were responsible for a most enjoyable supper.
