STATE HOUSES FOR OTAKI
FOUR UNITS TO BE BUILT Mrs. Cross, secretary of the Otaki branch of the Labour Party, has received the following letter from the office of the Minister of Works: "In reply to representations made by your branch that a commencement be made with the erection of State rental houses for Otaki., I have to state that some time ago •the the Housing Department called for tenders, but not a single t_ender was received. Since that time the depariment has beern endeavouring to get a builder to undertake the erection of State rental houses in Otaki. I am pleased to be now able to inform you that Mr. J. Gammon, builder, has accepted a contract to erect four units, and I expect the work on this contract will soon be under way. "If your branch would let me know if it is aware of any other builder or builders who would be prepared to take a contract to erect State rental houses, we would be pleased to get in touch with them. We are anxious to erect houses in Otaki." It is understood that another block of land, oppositee the courthbuse, has been secured for building purposes.
