Received Wednesday, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 5. The Minister of Transport, Mr. Alfred Barnes, in the House of Commons today, stated that the Government had decided as from October 1 to irtdrease railway passenger fares and rates for merchandise by passenger trains by l6i per cent, and to increase other railway charges bv 24 per cent. The increase will raise all railway Charges to 55 per cent. above the pre*war rates.
