SEES NO NEED FOR CLOTHING COUPONS
AUCKLAND, August 4. Doubt eoiiccniing the need for eontimiing elotliing and , t'ootwear rationiug in Now Zealand, was expressed in a report of tlie Auckland l'rovincia] lie tailers' Association wliich was presented at the association 's annual meeting tonight. Clothing ratiouing was introduced at a time of severe shortages, the report stated. The overall stock position had not improved but the executive felt that the time had arrived when official consumer ratiouing could be dispensed with. "Clothing coupons are in no way curtaiJing the • public 's ability to buy," said the report. "As the number of available coupons now bears no relationship whatever to available consumer goods, it is doubtful whether any useful purpose is served by retaining ratiouing. "Neither does it seem possible at this stage to evolve any amended ratiouing procedure wliich would achieve the desired eiul," tlio report continued. "The stock position changes so very quickly between- oue rationed commodity and auotlier that it would be inipossiblo to do anvthing wliich would ensurc that each person in the eommunity would receive an equal opportunily of obtaining supplies."
