CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. Destihfid for Honk Kong, Shanghai, and Mr. Rewi Alley's famous industrial school in Cliina's backblocks, 300 cases of mixed gifts left Lyttelton at the end of last week in the Qnion Com pany's ship, Nankin. states Corso.- The" gifts were sent from various organisations in New Zealand through Corso to welfare organisations in China — the Intemational Relief Cqmmittee, the Amferichh Red Cross, the China Welfare Fund and Mr. Rewi Alley's Bailie School. The shipmeiit ineluded spinning wheeis and baled wool, textbooks and Writing mat'e'rials,- mixed seedg, sohp fdotwear, and 200 cases of warm clothing. The food and medical supplies in Cltided honey, millc powder, e'ocl liver oil, splints, dressings, old linen, drugs and surgical instruments. Oiie section of the shipinent was made uj) of medical supplies for Dr. R. B: Sp'eiicer, who has just been sent to China by Corso to se't up a he'w clinie (the nucleus of a future hospital) for the 300 pupils and staff of the San dan .Schobl. Women 's organisations, Red Cross gro'upS, and school children throughout New Zealand contrilmted largely to the shipment.
