AUCKLAXD, August 1. "This seems to be a new evil which has sprung up in recent months — the oiitry of Alaori people of both sexes into the slygrogging business. There has been a large number of Alaoris belore the Court on such charges and it fdniost appears that it is bccorning an estaolished practk-e for them. " This cominent was made by Alr. J. II, Luxford S.AL today when Lucy Itichards, aged 2(5, a Alaori, pleaded guilty of selling liquor without a licence. The police said it was the tenth casc )f its kind in a week. Aeeused was admitted to 18 months' probation on condition that she returns to Paihia where she lived before coming to Auckland. • ' It is to be hoped that the police ind Xative Department will cooperate in trying to eradicate this shocking evil," said Alr. Luxford.
