WELLINGTON, August 1. Claims for more rural housiug wer« put forward at the conference of Xev Zealand Fc.ierated Fanners todav. Mr M. J. Galloway. of Otaki, said although 9643 liouses had been built in New Zealand during the past 12 months, onlv 120 had been built on farms. He outlined a scheme for the building of State rental hou.ses in villages adjoin ing farms. Federated Farmers wouhl take the responsibilitv for paying rent and rural workers occupying the liouses would be guaranteed work for 32 week* a year. Tliey would lie available fot work on various farms in the district and also in case of a farmer's sick ness. Farmers asked for priority foi the erectioii of 1000 liouses during tht next 12 months. Thev suggested mass production of a type that could have rooms added. Jf sucli hou-ses wenavailable tliey would get married labour. A deputation will put the ease foi the farmers to the Prime Ministei next week.
