r » ■■■-■ ^ — " WBLLI'NGTON, July -31. Ah assertion th'at the provisions oi the Industrial Coneiliation and Arbitration Amendment Bili before Parliament were farcicai, was made by Mr. K. J. Etoiyoake, M.P., at the Dommion conference of Federated Farmers. Mr. Holyoake said that under the industrial Coneiliation and Arbitration Act it was illegal. to strike and the amendment would give workers the right tp decide by secret ballot Whether they wduld break the law. "What is proposed is quite farcicai,'' said Mr. Holyoake. He was speaking to a motion that the conference Should record its concern over the evidence Of an apparent subordination of the na tional well-being to the demands 01 militant unionism inspired- by individuals whose activities were believed to be the underihining of the stability oi their economic structure, and should- re quest that the Government adopt a realistic attitude towards its responsiblO obligations to the people generally. Mr. H. J. McLeavey, who was second ing the motion, said chaos was being organised in the Dominion. It wai everyone 's responsibility to take heeO of that fact. The motion provoked considerablO discussion and was eventually carried.
