WATERSIDERS CONTINUE TO HOLD UP SHIPS
AUCKLAND, July 31. There was little change today in the waterfront dunnage dispute which has been affecting the liandling of cargo «»n overseas ships in the port for nine days. Five ships have been delayed by the contiuued refusals of waterside | vvorkers to handle dunnage, one ship. j the Canada, being rendered completely j idle until a more equitable distribution of cargo is made in her hold. Two iiuers, the Waiwera and Rangitihi, bound for the United Kingdom with passengers and frozen and genera' cargo, have now been given •tentativ.sailing dates for August 14 and August 9 respectively. . ' Although first ' priority calls for labour were answered in the case of the eolliers Omana and Kaimiro, the water side workers refused to accept en gagement in the holds from which gangs had been dismissed under penal ty for declining to lay dunnage. Con sequently a_ further 176 men joineu those already excluded from employ ment under the Waterfront Industry Comniission's three-day penaltv and brought the total number of dismissal.to 846 sinee Tuesday.
