Many olhers in the neiglibourhood were eut or bruised by fiying glass and brieks. The oxplosion oeeurred at Hari'isonburg, Virginia, and wasdieanl for inile-i. It blew a bliu-k eloin! of dust and smoke over the eity. A (ire broke out in the wreeked sliop buL it w as quickly ext inguihhed. Tlie Fire Brigade ehief reported the.t two women were blown th rough tl.e shop roof by tlie blast whieh also shattered windows in nearby shops. Some of the vielims were buried under the ruins of the shop. Women who, a few uunules before, were having hair and faees groomed, were draggetl out maimed and bloodsoaked with tlieii elothing ripped and faees bruised and blaekened. Five bodies identilied were all women or girls. Twenty vietims are rejmrted to be in hospital in a serious eomlition.
