STATUE OF RICHARD I. TO BE RENEWED

Received Aloiulay, 7 p.m. LONDON, July 28. When a bomb fell outsidb the. Ilouses of Parliament early in the war it damaged, among other things, the statue of Richard Goeur de Lion. The bronze work of the statue and the pedestal were damaged and Richard 's sword, whieli he holds aloft, was bent. A suggestiiih was made at the time that the bent sword should not be straiglitened but should be allowed to remain as it was a symbol of national deliance of lyraiiny. A winter gale, however, bent ihe sword still furtlior and the M'inistrv uf Works dbcided to brealc the damaged portion bBcause of the danger to the public. Now the statue is undergoim; full fepairs, sword to be renewed, and the Cfusader King will resume his full fcliallenging attitude before the statue ( to lfiug Oeorge Y., facing liim across the roadwav, is unveiled 011 October 22.
