Personal Mrs. J. Burgess left yesterday on holiday for Christchurch. Mrs. Harold Jones, of Hastings, is at preseni on a visit to Otaki, renewing acquaintance with her many old friends. Mr. and Mrs. Johns, who have been residents of Otaxi for many years, ieave -on Monday to take up residence at Masterton. They wiu carry with them the best wishes of their friends. The many friends of Miss Dawn Snell will be interested to know that she was one of the two nurses at the Palmerston North Hospital who passed with distinction in anatomy, physiology and nursing uechnique. Basketball Results Following are the results of the recent indoor basketbail matches: Raukawa Ladies 12, Combined 10; Otaki 22, Raukawa B 8; Aces (Spades) 8, Aces (Hearts) 2. Tuis won by default from H.M.S. Scout Shop Day The shop day conducted yesterday by the Otaki Boy Scouts, was very successf ul, and those in charge and those who assisted with aonacions are deserving of thanxs. As a result of the disposal of various goods a substantial sum has been raised for scout funds. Fire at Otaki Railway A conflagration which might have been attended with serious results occurred at Otaki Railway yesterday afternoon, but thanks to the promptness of Mr. Joe Fitzgerald was checked in its incipient stages. From the cooking bench the woodwork underneath became ignited, but was subdued before much damage was done. Ladies' Bowling Club The Otaki Ladies' Bowling Club, which st^rted last season and met with much success, tntends to make a big effort to have an even more successful season, and a meeting will be held on Wednesday to furcher their object. Some of the ladies, although new to the game, performed well. It is hoped during the coming season to play a number of games with outslde clubs.
