CLEVER CONJURER

EXHIBITION AT SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S EVENING The- highlight of the monthly members' night, of the Horowhenua Scottishr.. Society anci Pipe v B'and, held on -Thurs'day night, was the appearance of Mr. A. Andresen, of Foxton, who treated the audience to a full 30 minutes of the intricacies of magic. That Mr. Andresen is an accomplished magician is evident by the succession of tricks he performed, ranging from extracting handkerchiefs out of all sorts of places, until his final masterpiece of putting a 10s note in an envelope and eventually calling upon the owner of it to cut open a lemon, in which his note was reposing. Variety was the keynote of the programme, which. was interspersed with dances. The pupils of Miss Loma Hepworth again contributed to the programme, Misses . Ruth Judd and Kyra King danced the Irish jig, while Master Edwin Maher, who celebrated his . sixth birthday last Monday, appealed to everyone in his performance of the Highland fling. Misses Dawn and Marie Murray sang as a duet "Little Grey/Home in the West." their sweet rendition of which found much pleasure with the audience. Mr. J. Wright took "his listeners back to Scoiland in his masterly rendition of an elocutionary item. Proceedings opened with a selection by the band, after w^hich the chieftain, Mr. J. R. Macfarlane, expressed his pleasure at the large attendance and thanked the -artists who were present to provide the evening's entertainment.
