BRITISH RESPONSIBILITY

LONDON, July 21, Mr. Attlee said in the House of Gommons that the responsi'oility for maintaining internal security in Burma Test ed with the Governor. Troops were available for that purpose. They were under British conimand and under the Governor 's eontrol. Mr. Attlee added that Burma was not yet a Dominion Government. Therefore Britain had the respousibility of keeping law and order. Every step had been taken to provide for reinforee ments if needed, and a request had been tnade to India for th use of Indian troops if that should prove necessary. So far it had not. A message from Rangoon says that the authorities have detained a British offieer of the Army Ordnanee Depot in Burma for questioning about the reported disappeaiiance of 200 Bren guns and 10,0t)0 rounds of ammunition from the depot last week.
