RUSSIANS GET DOWN ON GERMAN URANIUM
'Received 'Monday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Juiy 21. The Russians have eordoned off twelve square miles of Saxony contain ing the only known large deposit of uranium in Europe and are flying the ore eastward as it is brought to the su'rface, says the Associated Press Chemnitz correspondent. Piteh blende oi\3 from which uranium is extracted, comes from a one time holiday and sph area in the Erz mountains near Annaberg. The Russians are keeping secret the number of workers engaged but the Leipzig labour ofifiee is supposed to have called up 35,000. Many labourers are considering fleeing westward to escape heavy labour with primitive equipment. Others say they are pleased to stay for the better rations the Russians are pro viding. Many refugees recently reach ing the American zone stated that they had left the Russian zone to escape eonscription into the uranium mines. The correspondent adds that the Teport comes from a German correspondent and is.claimed to be the first detailed account out of the Russian zone.
