MR. BEVIN'S THREAT TO HOUSE OF LORDS
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, J Vny 19. The end of the House of Lords if it opposed tne people's will, was predicted by Mr. nevin when. speaniug at a rnlners' rally at Morpetfi iast' night. Mr. Bevin said the Government, at the next session of Parliament intended to nationalise the steel industry. '>In the last few months we have had increasing evidence that we might have trouble from the Lords," ■he said." "Being a poaceful man 1 don't want to say anything that might create bad feelmg "but I would like to make this clear and I think it is the view of the Government, that if the Lords dares to stand between the will of the people and what the people desire, then it will be the end of the House of Lords. "The steel industry is a great monopoly and we cannot trust the manufacture of steel to steel lords who, in the past made large profits by not making steel. If the Lords, as the last refuge of ignorant reaction in Great Britain, stands in the way we shall set aside this pow'er. It may not be entirely necessary to shufc it up. We don't always do things like that in this coimtry. We might leave it the toy and take away tl*o sword."
