WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

TE HORO'S JULY MEETING The July meeting of the Te Horo Women's Institute opened by repeating the aspirations. Mrs. Johnson, the pre'sident, greeted a good attendance of members and welcomed two visitors, Mesdames Hickrhan and Simmons, and also Miss Horner, the guest speaker of the day. Mrs. Geange provided the thought of the. day.' Arrangements are well in hand for a concert on July 25 to pay the expenses of the drama festival. Mrs. Walker, in congratulating the players who took part in the plays, said all enjoyed and appreciated their efforts. A letter was received from Federated Farmers asking for support for a speedy train service between Paekakariki and Wellington. Mrs. Spiers was appointed to act on behalf of the Women's Institute. Mrs. Grant was Ihanked for making up the two peggy square quills that members had knitted, and which were admired. Mrs. Strom won the penny competition for the prize presented by Mrs. Clark. A card party will be held at the home of Mrs. Johnson on July 18. Many .good household hints were learnt by the roll call. Miss Horner gave a very interesting travel talk, describing her trip from New Zealand to England and then into Germany, where she was engaged with the nursing staff of CORSO. She gave a short account of the work CORSO was doing in Germany. * Mrs. Grant thanked Miss Horner for the " able way she had explained her travels; and she was then presented with a beautiful posy. Mrs. Strom read a letter from an insthute member in Norfolk, England, giving an account of being flooded out of their homes. The hostesses were Mesdames Walker and Styles. The competitions drew very good entries, .he results being: — Gent's buttonhole: Mrs. 'Grant 1, Mrs. McDonald 2, Mrs. Strom 3. Best flower in my garden: Mrs. .McDo'nald 1, Mrs. Brown 2, Mrs. Shernack 3. Three root vegefables: Mrs. Sutton 1, Mrs. Mills 2, Mrs. Johnson 3.
