Viscount Montgomery's Visit To New Zealand

WELLINGTON, July 16. Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery left Australia at 8.4 a.m. today and is due at Ohakea at 2.44 p.m. After his arrival he will drive 10 Government House, Wellington. Tomorrow morning there will be a press conference, after which he will lay a wreath at the War Memorial and then have discussions with the Government. At 12.45 p.m. there is to be a State luncheon and in the afternoon further discussio'ns with the Chiefs of Staff and army authorities. _ At 5 p.m. there will be a reception by returned men at the Grand Opera House. On Friday there will be further discussions with the army authorities and a civic reception at noon. Later he will visit the Disabled Servieemen's Training Centre, afterwards meeting members of Parliament in the social hall at Parliament House, following which there will be the services' recep.ion at the Hotel Waterloo. At 9 a.m. on Saturday Viscount Montgomery leaves for Invercargill, arriving there at noon. Later there will be a civic recep.ion and meeting with returned servicemen. Sunday morning will be spent at Invercargill and in the afternoon he will go to Dunedin, where on Monday he will inspect the Disabled Servieemen's Training Centre and the Montecillo Home and attend a civic reception. At 4.15 on Monday he arrives ai Oamaru, where 'there will be a brief reception, and thence goes to Timaru, arriving at 5.45 p.m. and receiving a reception in the Theatre Royal on arrival. Leaving for Chris church on Tuesday morning he will arrive there at 11.32 a.m. and be given a civic reception at King Edward Barracks at noon. The afternoon will be spent in visits to hospitals seeing service patients and laying wreaths at the War Memorial. The programme for the West Coast has been alteTed. On Wednesday Viscount Montgomery leaves Christchurch at 9 a.m. by car for Greymouth, where • at approximaiely 4.30 p.m. he will be given a reception in the Town Hall. Next morning he leaves 'for Westport, where there is to be a reception at 10.45 a.m. At noon he leaves by plane for Nelson, where at 2.15 p.m. there will be a reception on the church steps if fine, but if wet i'n the Majestic Thea re. Arriving in Blenheim at 3.45 p.m. by plane, he will be given a reception in Market Place at 4 p.m. At 9 a.m. on Friday Viscount Monfgcmery will set out for New Plymouth, where he is to arrive by plane at the. Bell Block aerodrome at 11 a.m. At 11.30. there will be a civic reception on ihe baleony of the Criterion Hotel. After this he goes by air to Ohakea, where he has luncheon in the officeiw' mess. Ar 3.30 p.m. he will arrive at Wanganui by car and be given a reception in Cooko's Gardens if fine, and if wet in the Opera House. After the reception he leaves for Palmerston Nor.h: where at 5.15 a civic reception wili be tendered in the Opera House. On Saturday morning Viscount Montgomery will iravel by air to Hastings for a reception at the racecourse at 10.30 a.m. Thence he will proceed to Napier for a reception a-: the Sound Shell at 11.45 L fine and in the Municipal Theatre if wet. There will be a luncheor with the civic authorities and R.S.A. a. Napier, after which he will go on to Gisborne, where then is to be a reception in the Operr. House and later a meeting witi. re urned servicemen. Ihe morning oi sunday, July 27 will be free, but in the afternoor. Viscount Montgomery will go b: car to Rotorua, spending Monda[ morning sighc-seemg and visi int soldiers in the convalescent hospi tal. There will also be a civi-. reception and reception by thc Maoris, as well as by reourned services in ihe afternoon. On Tuesday, July 29, he will be given a civit reception at 11 a.m. at Hamilton and have luncheon with the R.S.A. after which he will leave by car for Auckland, where he will visit ihe Green La^e Hospital and Middlemore Hos^tal. On the Wednesday, July 30, he will inspect the Tamaki navai training establishment in the morning and at 12 noon drive through the city to the Town Hall for a civic recepdon at 12.30. The afternoon is reserved, but betweer 5 and 6 he will meet returned servicemen in the Town Hall. Viscount Montgomery leaves New Zealand from Whenuapai on July 31. His car will be easily recognised by the public throughout the tour, as it will be flying a Union Jack pennant from the radiator.
