Damage to Telephone Lines The Wanganui Education Board yesterday considered a request from the Oroua Downs School Committee that the board meet the cost (£12 6s 2d) of repairing damage to telephone lines caused when a tree was accidentally felled across them by a working bee. The board agreed to "foot the bill." Forced Landing A privately owned Avro Anson plane, on a ftight from Wellington to Westport, made a forced landing in a paddock at Murchison. - The machine was damaged but neither j of the two ' occupants, Messrs. L. ' Gatehouse (pilat). and T) Revell, of Wellington-, was injured. Gaol for Theft A ; freezing works employee, James Te Matia Smith, single, aged 25, who admitted stealing a wristlet watch from a fellow worker at Tomoana on July 9, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment by ' Mr. Miller, S.M. in the Hastings Maglstrate Court, yesterday. The police said that Smith had several previous convlctions for theft, , assault and disorderly behaviour. Car's Crash Into Pole A small car being driven at speed along Queen's Drive, Lyall Bay, on Monday night with a police night patrol car hot in pursuit, crashed into a telegraph pole while attempting to ■ negotiate a corner and was badly wrecked. The, car, which is believed to have been converted, hit the kerb on approaching the corner and overturned against the pole, bringing down the overhead wires. The driver was extricated by cutting through ihe fio.or baards and taken to hospital in ari unconscious condition. . ,
