The Government had approved p plaVi to convprt the barracks and other buildings , into married quarters for troops of- all ranlcs in military camps.said the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, after inspeeting the housing settlement at Papakura camp. Only a limited number of buildings eould be us.ed as ordinary military requirements had to be maintained, and the scheine would be earried put accordinglyr. "From what I have seen today I think the Northern Military Districl .Construetion Company lias done a wonderful job," he said. The cost of the houses varied according to the amount of aalvaged material used but it was in the vieinity of £500. The Minister also mentioned' the relief it provided for the civilian housing problem. Asked what Papakura camp would be used for when the relief ' draft oi J Force lpft for Japan, Mr. Jones saiu military training would still be earried out there. Although he did not revea I the nature of training, it was suggesteo that it would comprise members of thp interim army and replaeements for the J Force.
