Attlee, speaking in the House of ,C9npnon.S .during the committee siage .of the Indian Independehce Bill, said that 'B'ritain would be perfecflly willing to enter into ddsoyss.ihps with successor Governments'in any matter of common defence. "The preservation of geaee ' ^ the north-west frontier is'vital to^the whole of India."' Earl Winierton urged the proper defence of the north-west frontier in safeguarding world peace. Mr. Attlee said that British negotiations with the authorities in Nepal regarding the position the Gurkhas would bear w.ere going extremely well. Qfficers would ohortly leave Britain for Nepal tg try ahd fix the whole maiter. "I hjnk it is important that we should have the use of Gurkha .roops as in the past." Mr. Attlee said he hoped that a great number of the British offi: cers now serving in the Indiar; Army would remain with one of he two D.ominions.
