ANNIVERSARY BALL
' — ~-^r REBIJILHING OF OHAU HALL CELEJ5RATED In commemoration of the rebuilding of the Ohau Hall in 1944, the Ohau Hall Society last Friday conducted a successful ball in the building, there being present a large gathering, includirig visitors from Paraparaumu to Qroua Powns. Uhder ihe capable direcfion of Mr. J. H. Mungavin, and to music supplied by a professjonal orchestra, dancing was continued tili 1 a.m. A tale of ha.rd WPi'k, fine community spirit and pe'rsistency is embodied in the buildings of the new. hall. It was in 1942 that fire razed the original 40-year-old strueture: Determined that it be replaced as expeditioiisly as possible, the hall committee, backed by residents generally; worked hard and affer considerable difflcuity in regard . to obtaining materials and labour finally achieved the objective ' in July, 1944. lr is in celebration of this achjevement that the committee .has arranged these annual functions. The undoubted success of last Friday 's function was due to the efforts of/ the committee, headed by the chairman (Mr. S. C. Saint) , secretary (Mrs. J, C, Fanning) and the " committee, Mesdames D. H. Murray, E. Guerjn, Messrs, F. Fanning, H. Nichoias, W, G.- Benning. and J. G. Horn. The hall decorations were arranged by Mesdames Murray, Guerin, Fanning, Messrs. Fanning, Nichoias, Saint, Harding, Benning, "j, G. Horn, Junr., and J. Lomas, of the Ohau Badminton Club. Mrs. Guerin was in charge of the supper. Among the many attractive f rocks worn were the following: Mesdames W. G. Benning, black cloque; S. C. Sqint, floral taffeta; Fanning, turquoise cloque; Murray, cherry georgette; Guerin, floral taffeta; S. P. Bowler, vieux rose emboss.ed ge.orgette; L. Coies, floral; Murdock, red taffeta; P. Ward, blue allover lace; J. H. Mungavin, floral satin; and T. Cheesman, black georgette; Misses Mary McBeth, pink organdie; Noeline Cole, mauve net; P, Clifton, blue crepe; L. Aldrich, sprigged musfln; B, Graham, white georgette; S. Fraser, blue taffeta; B. Cudby, gold crepe; S. MacCarthy, blue lace; Jean Fanning, cherry georgette; June Benning, white cioque; Chennelis, floral taffeta; B. Goldsmith, pink georgette; A, jShaw, black lace; I.'Shaw, black net and N.
