U.S. WILL REJOICE IN FULL INDEPENDENCE
Received Tuesday, 10 a.m. NEW DELHI, July 7. Mr. Grady, the first United States Ambassador to India, said that the British Government's principle of the Indians determining their own form of independence was "entirely in line with Ameriean foreign policy." He could not see why, on the establishment of two Dominions of India, and Pakistan, that there should not be prompt recognition from Washington. "Our President and Government will rejoice in the full realisation the Indian independence programme. We have no designs on the economic or political life of your country, or any other. We will be happy to assist if our assistance is sought, but it won't be thrust upon you."
