RAUMATI BOWLING CLUB

! THIRD ANNUAL MEETING The third annual . general meeting of the Raumati South Bowling Club was held recently when, despi'te the unfavourable weather, a iarge number of members attended. A notice of motion, moved by the president, that the annual subscription be increased by £1 ls and associate members foy 10s, was carried. The president pointed out that this inerease was made necessary by increased labour costs and maintenance as a whole. The last year's report and balance sheet- were adopted, it being considered that, taking into account the lact that the club purchased a new mower for £120 a balance of £41 on the year's working was satisfactory. The club is maintaining a policy of ,improvement and progress, having planted chis year £25 worth of hedge plants and ornamental shrubs., which in time will help to make its grounds one of the beauty spots of the district. The requirements of the clubhouse are not being neglected, a sum of £68 being deposited in the bank for improvements to the building, it being hoped that this sum will be considerably augmented this year., An interesting feature of the evening was a report from the green superintendent, Mr. F. Tyrer, on his and the greenkeeper's visit to ( the recent conference at the 'Green Research Institute, Palmerston North. The superintendent .emphasised the fact that the old hit-and-miss methods of green. upkeep must go. If clubs wished to maintain their greens up to the standard demanded today, they had to avail themselves freely and adhere to the scientific knowledge which was theirs for the asking. He pointed out that'it was useless for" the layman to attempt to pit himself against the experts who' had gained their knowledge from a lifetime of study and experiments.

The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Mr. W. Bromley; vice-president, Dr. D. Paterson; hon. secretary, Mr. S'. Moffatt; assistant secretary, Mr. B. Lankshear; treasurer, Mr. S. Cummins; green superintendent, Mr. F. Tyrer; delegate to centre, Mr. G. Cox; hoA. auditor, Mr. G. Harderi;' sole selector, Mr. S. Cummins; committee, Messrs. J. Hooker, O. Lynch and C. Osborne. . 'The'.presen.tation . of trophies. to last year's winners was madfe, and the meeting concluded with supper.
