ELECTORAL ROLL FOR MAORI VOTERS

WELLINGTON, July 3. , Legislation will soon be introduced in tlie House of Representatives providing for the estahlishment of a separate electoral roll for Maori voters, said the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, today. ...... He said the decision had been taken following representations by the four Maori Members. He had accordingiy instructed the Electoral Department to do the preparatory work. Mr. Praser also said that, following the hearing pf the Raglan petitiou, he had asked the Department to report concerning weaknesses and anomalies in the electoral law which may have become apparent during the hearing of the case. Mr. Fraser said he had no objection to the setting up of a committee of the House to consider a revision of the electoral law ; as suggested by Mr. Baxter while seconding the Address-in-Repiy motion.
