The town branch of the Paraparaumu St. Paul's Guild held a bring-and-btiy evening and concert in aid of funds for the Melanesian Mission. In spite of very wintry conditions, a large crowd 1 assembled and business was brisk ,t the various stalls. Miss Telford was doorkeeper. In charge were: Produce stall, Mesdames Lee and Smith; ' jumble stall, Mesdames Wise and Drewitt; fancy work, Mesdames Graham, Mansford and Thompson. Among the most popu!ar on such a cold afternoon were those who dispensed the "eup that cheers," and Mesdames Hornsby, Hadfield, Hoggard, Cotterell and other willing helpers were kept very busy indeed. Afternoon tea was followed by a delightful concert programme. Those taking part were Miss Ruth Hoggard (violin solo) ; Mrs. Lee (piano) ; Mesdames Lee and Riekells (duets with Miss Ruth Hoggard at the piano; Mrs. Cotterell (elocutionary items) ; and Mr. and Mrs. Graham (musical monologues) . Altogether a very delightful programme and a pleasant afternoon was spent. Rev. Riekells thanked all helpers and those present for attending on such a boisterous afternoon to make the function such a success. The Raumati Hall has been painted and no doubt should prove i very useful asset as a means of promoting many social activities in the district.
