FOG HAMPERED SEMI-FINALS AT TRENTHAM
GOING WAS SURPRISINGLY GOOD YESTERDAY. The outside of the course was open for fast work at Trentham yesterday but fog wreathed the northern end oi the course and the majority of gallops could not be timed The first opportunity for timing occurred when the Wliyte Handicap i-ajididate How.e (K. Ford) and Lecturer (N. Vaughan) vvere sent over iive furlongs. Lecturer began the better to Jead to the straight entrance, but Howe then drew up for the pair to fiiush on tenns and compJete in 1.7,, the la9t half-mile being run in 53 l-5see. Im'mediately following the fog again descended, and when Hot Pu'rsuit (W. Doyle), Honora (Iv. Ford), and Flyirig Gold (N. Eales) came out to gallop it was impossible to timo them. However at the post Hot Pursuit was a neek in front of Honora, with Flying Goid half a length baek. Goid . Watch (N. Vaughan) beat Zealander (Waites) over half a mile, while Beau le Havre (Iv. Ford) traversed the same distance. No times were taken. Stouy Broke (W. Doyle) was doing it comfortably in front of Tutere (W. J. Mudford) at the end of half a mile in 51 3-5sec, whereas the next to work, Gay John (Taylor), required 54 3-5sec. Neenah (McGregor) was half a iength to the good over Blue Tie (K. Fonl) after covering five furlongs, the last half-mile in 52 2-5see. Neville and Welcome Guest ran live furlongs in 1.7 1-5, the last half-mile in 52 l-5sec. High Order (N. Vaughan) was revelling m the going while associated with Palissv (Iv. Ford) over seven furlongs in 1.3(5, coming home the last half-mile in 55scc. At 10 o'clock the jumpers made their appearance. Bright Fox (B. Collett), Reprosentative (L. Collett), and Town Survev (D. McKmnon) were associated over iive fences. They started off at the sod wai] along the back- to then tako the boards, brush, /boards, and brush in turn, with Bright Fox doing it particularly well. Royal Writ (R. J". Auckram), Runawav (Gibson), and Afabian Night (R. •Heasley) were set a similar task.
