New Zealand was glad to have been able to coutribute to the success oi Unrra and had done.so from the conviction that sucli an understaking was essential in the interests of world roconstruction and that it was the responsibility of the more fortunata countries to endeavour to alleviate the suffering caused by the recent war, said the Priine Minister,: Mr. Fraser, in a i message to the • Director-General • of Unrra lieadquarters in Washihgton, ou the occasion of thejofficial ending of Unrra operations in Europe. . Hajor-General Lowell W. Rooks, director-general, in;. a message to &lr. Fraser, expressed appreciation of New Zealand 's contributiqn of supplies aua personnel which had been generous and effective to tlie, work of Unrra. Of the New. Mr. ■Fraser expressed 'the conviction that the ideal to which ihe organisation was dedicated, wouid continue to be the guiding principle of international bodies which will no,w carry on Unrra 's important task.
