FUTURE OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS

WELLINGTON, June 25. Becommendations from last week's conference on .Patriotic and Canteen Funds were approved at a meeting of the National Patriotic Fund Board Ln Wellington this .morning. The meeting endorsed a recommcnda tion that provincial funds should re main at present and be expended in ac- 1 cordanee with existing legislation, with the following provisos: — 1. That a conference of all pro vincial patriotic councils be called to discuss the reeonstitution of provincial patriotic councils throughout New Zealand on as uniform a basis as possible, and to provide adequate otficial representation of ex-service organisations. - . 2. That there be a constitution of zone and interzone committees of the provincial patriotic councils, on. which adequate official representation of exservice organisations is provided. 3. . That provincial patriotic councils be asked to set' up welfare committee."' throughout their -.provincial areas, such committees to .inolude represontatives of ex-service organisations, . . It was agreed, that the conference should be. held in Wellington on August 20, and that- .councils should not send more 'than two delegates eaehi • The Mayor of Auckland (Mr. J. A. C. Allum) criticised the [iroposed reeonstitution of -the board as agreed at last week 's meeting, that Ihcro 'should be, in* additiori to other members, seven repr.esentatives from the provincial patriotic councils, Mr. Allum suggested that there should be one representative from each of the councils, making a total of 33 members instead of 23 as had been previouslv decided. The provincial councils would resist any change, Mr. Allum declared. After further diseussion it was decided to refer the motion to the conference for decision. Mr. Allum suggested the establishment of an executive committee, and his suggestion was adopted. "It is not neeessary to call between 20 and 30 people to Wellington foi every meeting," commented the mover.'
